Reading and writing non-fiction texts is such an important skill to help us to construct knowledge of the world around us. We need to be able to choose the right TEXT TYPE to communicate with our PURPOSE (inform, explain, describe; persuade, argue, advise; explore, imagine, entertain) to the chosen AUDIENCE (our reader).
There are a wide range of different text types we use in our everyday lives. Here are some of the most popular:
- Letters
- News articles
- Feature article
- Opinion-editorials
- Reports
- Advertisements
- Essays
- Instruction manuals
- Travel writing
- Film reviews
- Tourist brochures
We not only need to be able to read and write well, but we need to be able to speak and listen well. Examples of texts which are spoken.
- Speeches
- Debate
- Presentations
Read the three following pieces. Can you identify which type of communication bracket it fits into? (inform, explain, describe; persuade, argue, advise; explore, imagine, entertain). Add to your Google doc. notes.
