I had to practice a few times to get through the first two jumps. I'm still trying my best to get to the end of this level. The difficulty of the game is laid out well. The player first gets to get used to the buttons then a challenge comes on. One thing I would recommend is having a pop-up window telling the players where the buttons are. Keep up the good work!

It's playable and addictive. The zombie shoot em up requires a bit more work, but good to have a go and Dominic has clearly learnt a good deal about game development.

We explored the inside of a PC and we had to rebuild it when we were finished exploring the inside. Overall this was a fun unit and we both enjoyed it. I like the way you are learning to work together effectively. There is no need to rush through units to get to the next one, as long as the work you are doing is at a good pace and valuable.

Student Comment In this unit I learnt about what a policy is, all the rules in our ICHK ICT policy and why we have the ICT policy. I learnt from the policy that we are actually allowed to use our computers anywhere on the 1st floor in C block at 2nd break, not just the IT room. Teacher Comment Jason, well done on completing another unit. This one is not so exciting, but hopefully it will help you use your laptop sensibly. You make an excellent point that the policy lays out the rules so that you know if you are breaching the rules or not. This makes life fairer, clearer and easier for everyone. At the same time we don't want to define every possible rule, but also want to encourage people to be sensible, wise, kind and responsible. Keep up the excellent work.

I'm really impressed with the way you stayed focused and persistent, even in the face of difficulty. This says a lot about you as a person and as a learner : )) I love the fact that you have now built a WordPress learning site, and your own hand-coded one. I would say that on the whole you would be better sticking with the WP one, as it has all sorts of organisational tools to help you. Also, your own site is currently tricky to update, as you need my help. However, if you want to keep developing your own learning site and making it better (which you could do in Programming 102), then you can keep learning. I could even help you host your own site, if you want it on the Internet in a place where you can control it. It seems like you are really enjoying yourself...keep having fun learning!

Minecraft 101	Mark Shared on 11/06/2017	Click to View Work Student Comment During this lesson, i had some difficulties making the sound effects since you can't just get the monsters sound effects online since thats illegal, so i recorded the sound effects on minecraft and in the end it worked out. The editing and use of narrative is excellent, and this is supported by the sense of rising tension offered by the change in music when you are preparing for the worst. I love the opening text, followed by the panning shot, which really sets the mood. Not only are you clear, concise and to the point, but your work also makes some wonderfully insightful points as to the nature of technology. Truly, as you say, a double-edged sword which we would be wise to use responsibly. You've arrived at one of the core understandings of the HT course. You mention fighting in the streets if our food supply network was to break down (they reckon solar flares could wreak havoc on our computer systems), which reminds me of a saying attributed to various sources: “every nation is about three/six/seven/nine meals away from anarchy/revolution.”. Based on our recent shared experiences around security bugs, and how they should be dealt with, I find you to be a great example of using technology positively and responsibly. Identity	Jack Shared on 25/01/2017	Student Comment I enjoyed this unit mainly because I got to think about who I really am and I got to think about all my hobbies. In the work you can see things about me, where I live, etc... and lots of my different hobbies Teacher Comment Jack, well done on an excellent unit, in which you have created a striking representation of your identity. The colours, and the use of the HK skyline in white, convey a lot of meaning, and are visually appealing. The iconography tells me a lot about who you are and what you enjoy. Hopefully you now see that your identity, although seemingly fixed in one time and place, will change over time, and will be expressed differently in different situations. For example, as you grow older, your interests, beliefs and values will change...and these will be expressed differently at home, in class and during break. It's great to know who you are, but also to be open to change as well.

Many changes were made when I was making this, since there are jokes I think not many would get so I removed them. Overall, I just want to get people to just know how stupid Donald Trump is, and just #NoTrump2016. Editing for me currently is pretty fun and I hope it would last a while. Teacher Comment Marcus, I have to admit to feeling a very real sense of pride in watching your work, as in many ways, it is far beyond your years. It is heartening to see someone of your age trying to tackle what is the most serious, divisive political issue of our time (the rise of the nationalistic far-right in politics). The satirical work you have produced effectively unveils the inconsistencies in Trump's platform, and underlines what many instinctively feel: that he will say and do anything to get elected. In terms of our Digitally Positive outcome, you have shown excellent, positive participation in an online setting, whilst also seeking to protect your privacy on a social network (e.g. using Unlisted and disabling comments). My question for you is if and how you want to promote your work, in the hope of spreading your message. This is a double edge sword, as it could unleash a tidal wave of vitriol from other Internet users, despite the precautions you have taken. As you appear in the video in person, it is important to consider your safety and privacy. I would be really happy to promote this work widely, but only with your permission (and ideally after you have discussed it with your parents). What do you think? Is it worth it? In general, I would try not to call others "stupid", partly as it is impolite, but also as there are smarter ways to attack an opponent without lowering yourself to their level. I'd love to see this work in your student exhibition site, as part of your record of developing learning. I think this piece really reflects your ability to take on board critical input, and your patience in iterating through your work to improve it steadily over time. Teardown and Rebuild (Electronics)	Thomas Shared on 22/06/2016	Click to View Work Student Comment In this unit I learnt how to do a teardown and rebuild on a 2009 unibody macbook. I learnt how a computer worked and the parts of a computer. Such as a logic board, a hard drive, the CPU, GPU and the battery. I also learned that the hard drive is very small and half the size of a CD drive. I also learned that the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth antenna are a bunch of wires not a piece of plastic. Teacher Comment Thomas, well done on a fantastic unit, in which you have been exceptionally focused and hard working. The result is an excellent video which showcases a wide range of knowledge and skills on your part. On the ICT side, your knowledge of the components and how they fit together is excellent. You use a lot of technical vocabulary, and do so comfortably. I think the only technical error is that the HDD is most likely SATA2, not SATA3! On the media side, the video is really well produced, with catchy music, smooth video editing and a clear confident voice over. I am impressed that you filmed it all yourself, hand-held, whilst operating the tools as well. Towards the end a few bits are blurry, most likely because your phone's lens cannot focus at very short distances (you need a macro lens for this). The CC licensing and attribution was also very good, and shows that you can legally use the work of others to improve on your own. Given the high quality of your work, and the learning process behind it, I have selected your work to feature in the Exemplar Work and Showcase sections of Free Learning. Very well done, great stuff : ) I would highly recommend you include this video in your Student Exhibition Site to build up your online portfolio of work. I learned about the good things and bad things in MC such as there are many hostile mobs that will attack you if you are in survival mode and that you can use diamonds to create strong armour and swords. In general I think MC is a great game where you can craft structures using your imagination and explore multiple dimensions and generated structures throughout the game. Teacher Comment Benjy, well done for completing this unit. It has taken you a long time to get it done, and I do wonder if you spent all of your classroom time wisely (I have a feeling there might have been some sneaky gaming in there, but I might be wrong). However, the result is very polished and engaging, with some smooth video/audio editing, and a sound track of your own creation. As an advert it works very well, although it does lack a hook at the end: how is it that you can convince someone to go out and play Minecraft? It would have been cool to see an example of some crazy crafting on your part, to illustrate some of the creativity that is possible. I am impressed that you submitted this work in your own time. Overall, well done. We got stuck on a very simple part but than we got help from Mr. Parker. I think we did well in putting the clips together and making them come together well. You have taken a diverse range of action clips and combined them together to form a trailer for your own film, Nightfall. In doing so you have overcome the difficulties presented by the appearance of many different actors and scenes, and created a fluid and interesting narrative. Having scene your work in production, I can attest to the high number of clips included, and the intricate video editing you used to bring it all together. In collaborating so well with each other, you have created a piece that is much stronger than either of you would alone. Raspberry Pi Gaming Console	Felix Shared on 17/08/2015	Student Comment During this unit, I learned about being persistent and to keep on trying to fix things if it doesn't work and not to beat myself up when the project doesn't work the way you want it to. I also learnt a lot about circuitry, problem solving and finding the best prices for hardware. I have played games on the PI with my portable screen and a controller. the case is still a work in progress however I am determined to finish it. Teacher Comment Felix, this was a mammoth effort, during which you showed persistence, resilience, tenacity, problem solving and great humour. All amazing traits. On the technical side you overcame many problems with hardware, software, and the interplay of the two, showing great skill, and developing your armory of tools and skills. Although still needing a case, your RaspPi console works well and has been enjoyed by your peers (a true test), who were blown away by what you have achieved. I hope that after completing this project you can fully appreciate the value of the hacker ethic that you now clearly possess: this enterprising spirit is what built the PC, the Internet and companies such as Google and Apple: with it, you can achieve and build almost anything. Very well done!
Electronics With Arduino	Alex Shared on 22/06/2015	Student Comment I learnt how to hook up stuff to the Arduino board and program in C language. I also learned what a capacitor is and how to not blow up a light bulb (although I have already). Teacher Comment Alex, looking at your Arduino project, I can only conclude you know a lot more about electronics than I do, which is awesome to see. Well done for making a nice dice rolling setup, and for taking Alvin under your wing, and introducing him to a new area of learning. The knowledge you have is really powerful, and would like you make all sorts of cool projects. I have just one such ideas up my sleeve, if you are interested in trying something really challenging next year. Well done on an excellent unit.

Epic Wallpaper	Mason Shared on 22/06/2015	Student Comment This unit is basically about making a cool and awesome wallpaper using a photoshopping application called Acorn, my custom wallpaper appears to be a blured theme with a rhino sihoulettte, at the end I made a drop shadow effect on the sihoulette which improved the wallpaper overall as it makes the wallpaper stand out more. Teacher Comment Mason, it took a few submissions, but your design is now looking polished and ready for use as a wallpaper. I love the colours you have chosen, as they contrast really well, and the drop shadow shows up really well against the bright background. Well done taking the time to make this better.

Side note - I've been wondering if I'll be able to direct my own learning when I leave school - will not having organised resources hinder my learning? Or free it? I agree with your assertion that humans are "programmed" by their circumstances, and create on that basis. So, although it is uncomfortable with the idea that a computer can be creative. Perhaps we need to redefine creativity as making that goes against our programming...and so is different. Of course, we cannot escape our cultural programming...we would be wild beasts without it. Isaac Newton claimed he was merely "standing on the shoulders of giants" when he created his work, showing his understand of the importance of his predecessors. Very humble! I like your stand against the tyranny of those who currently control creativity, and have a corporate/ego incentive to keep it exclusive. As if they are special in a way no one else is. They might have had more practice, but most are not possessing of any special "gift". Also, the video you linked to was really interesting...there is a similar one, where they 3D print the evolved creatures, attach a motor, and then they walk off (very scarily). In terms of your final comment...some people find that they lose confidence when the scaffold of school is removed. Others feel liberated by the freedom, and supported by what they have learned. Charlie Shared on 02/03/2015	Click to View Work Student Comment In this unit, we started using AppInventor, an online software to create Apps. We created our own app, Wandernoob from scratch. We learned quite a lot on the behind the scenes of creating an app, from creating screens to programming the buttons of the app. We also learned about how you can run an AI companion, which shows a digital phone on your computer; We chose to end this unit and move on to Xcode, since we thought that AppInventor was very limited to what it can create. For example, there was a limitation to how many screens we can have that would be supported in AppInventor (10). Another limitation was that the databases were extraordinarily limited. The TinyWebDB could easily be overwritten by other people's information, meaning that it could not be in one place, solely for us. Another limitation of AppInventor was that the graphics and the look of the overall app did not look very nice and not up to our standards. Even though this program had way too many limitations, it was still a good start to creating apps, since we barely know anything about it, and it was very nice to have a website learn the basics to app creation. Teacher Comment Charlie, well done on an excellent unit, where you and Jasmine have collaborated wonderfully to work on Wundernoob, your travel app. I was impressed that you took your work seriously enough to brand it, and to redo the graphics a number of times until the quality levels were high enough. In addition, you had a lot of great discussions about how to proceed, using the whiteboard to mockup some ideas. On the technical side, I know you worked hard on TinWebDB, and feel you made the right decision to abandon it when you did. Although in the end App Inventor proved insufficient for your needs, as you pointed out in your reflection, you used it to learn about app design, which you had not learned before. It seems that you are now reading for App Design 102, where I know you are planning on building your app for iOS. I think your app has a shot at commercial success, if this interests you, so if you would like, do not use CC on the iOS version, but rather copyright the work under your and Jasmine's names. There are different areas that I have explored more such as identity theft and phishing. I've also learned what the difference is between a hacker and a cracker. Your information from your parents is very clearly written, and is easy to understand for the intended audience. A short introduction outlining why you are providing this information would have been nice. In terms of your understanding, it seems pretty solid. Your list of sources shows a good range, but quite a few are companies, which means what you are reading might be marketing material, and so more opinion based than fact. I think this is how you came to give "Tivoli Storage Manager" as an approach to backups: this is one brand, rather than a whole separate approach. On the phishing front, you picked up on subdomains, which is great. However, your example www.hsbc.com would only be set up by HSBC, as they own the hsbc.com domain. However, a hacker could buy mysecurebank.com (or something similar) and then add hsbc as a subdomain, giving: hsbc.mysecurebank.com. So, it is the order of the different parts of the address that tell us whether it is a threat. Please do share your work with your parents...as it will help keep your family safe. I reused it here(with translated subtitles) because I realized it was a trailer mash, and the topics beyond the trailer mash unit look really interesting. I thought the long subtitles stuck at the top of one scene could have been better done as scrolling subtitles at the bottom. Overall, more excellent work!
